The fiasco continues...*headdesk*

As seen all around...

ACTA in a Nutshell –

What is ACTA?  ACTA is the Anti-Counterfeiting Trade Agreement. A new intellectual property enforcement treaty being negotiated by the United States, the European Community, Switzerland, and Japan, with Australia, the Republic of Korea, New Zealand, Mexico, Jordan, Morocco, Singapore, the United Arab Emirates, and Canada recently announcing that they will join in as well.

Why should you care about ACTA? Initial reports indicate that the treaty will have a very broad scope and will involve new tools targeting “Internet distribution and information technology.”

What is the goal of ACTA? Reportedly the goal is to create new legal standards of intellectual property enforcement, as well as increased international cooperation, an example of which would be an increase in information sharing between signatory countries’ law enforcement agencies.

Essential ACTA Resources

  • Read more about ACTA here: ACTA Fact Sheet
  • Read the authentic version of the ACTA text as of 15 April 2011, as finalized by participating countries here: ACTA Finalized Text
  • Follow the history of the treaty’s formation here: ACTA history
  • Read letters from U.S. Senator Ron Wyden wherein he challenges the constitutionality of ACTA: Letter 1 | Letter 2 | Read the Administration’s Response to Wyden’s First Letter here: Response
  • Watch a short informative video on ACTA: ACTA Video
  • Watch a lulzy video on ACTA: Lulzy Video

Say NO to ACTA. It is essential to spread awareness and get the word out on ACTA.

Sometimes we don't even speak to us...

*chuckles* I haven't seen this in quite a while. Hello Dolly is on Encore Family and it reminds me how much I loved this as a child. Walter Matthau and Barbra Streisand and the guest spot with Louis Armstrong, all directed by Gene Kelly. Such an awesome movie - seriously. The dancing, the costumes and of course, the music.

*settles in under blanket and turns up the volume* The perfect thing for me after a long and late night at work...

♥ I can't tell you how much I still love this. ;)

Snowflake Challenge: Day 3

Day 3

Comment to someone you haven't ever interacted with before. Afterwards, leave a comment in this post with the equivalent of "I did it!"

It doesn't have to be anything complex - it can be feedback for a fanwork or discussing something you might have in common or even simply admiring their icon. The point is to reach out to someone you normally wouldn't and connect with them, even if it's only for the briefest moment.

Did it! :D

GAH!

Bird in the house! I opened up my front door and a bird in my wreath flew in *headdesk*

Took me the better part of 20 minutes to chase it back out. Now I'm on the look out for any 'presents' it might have left...

Movies watched...

This holiday season, I've managed to make it to the movies four times (with hopes for more)... All were definitely good, but of course, some better than others...

Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows spoilers! )

Mission Impossible spoilers )

The Darkest Hour spoilers (sorta - mostly general thoughts )

The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo )

All four movies were entertaining, fun and awesome in different ways. I recommend them all :) Although if you're not familiar with David Fincher's work or the Dragon book, I'd suggest reading the warnings out there about the violence - there should be a major trigger warning on it, imho.

Snowflake Challenge: Day 2

Day 2

In your own space, post a rec for at least three fanworks that you did not create. Drop a link to your post in the comments. See if you can rec fanworks that are less likely to be praised: tiny fandoms, rare pairings, fanworks other than stories, lesser known kinks or tropes. Find fanworks that have few to no comments, or creators new to a particular fandom and maybe aren't well known or appreciated. Appreciate them.

1. Apply Pressure by Lithium Doll, Person of Interest, gen, "It's not looking good."
This is a coda to the episode 10 of the new CBS show Person of Interest. It's a new fandom, so it isn't particularly large right now. But Lithium Doll has written a spot on fic, capturing the main characters so amazingly well and creating such a wonderful and believable continuation of the story.

2. Come As You Are by perdiccas, Criminal Minds/Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles crossover, gen, "The BAU travel to LA to help resolve an unusual hostage situation."
This is such an interesting crossover. It makes complete sense somehow and I really just love the interactions of all the characters. Just a quick little glimpse into a possibility that is very well written.

3. Five Relationships Nolan Ross Never Had by thedeadparrot, Revenge, Nolan Ross, Amanda Clarke, Emily Thorne, David Clarke, Jack Porter, Tyler Barrol
I've been sucked into the new ABC drama Revenge, and this is one of the best fics floating around out there that is Nolan-centric. Well written and in turns sad and hot, it explores one of the most interesting characters and his dynamic with other characters. I love it :)

Snowflake Challenge: Day 1

I'm a little behind, but this challenge seemed awesome, and I wanted to post more often, so... here we go.

Day 1

In your own space, post a rec for at least three fanworks that you have created. It can be your favorite fanworks that you've created, or fanworks you feel no one ever saw, or fanworks you say would define you as a creator.

I haven't produced many fanworks lately, but here's what I recommend from my own works:

1. A Gordian Knot, due South/Blood Ties crossover, Benton Fraser/Ray Kowalski, Henry Fitzroy/Mike Celluci, over 20k words DW; LJ; AO3
I love this fic. It was the first time I'd managed to write a longer piece without a co-author and have it done in time for the challenge. Plus, I'm proud of how I drew the characters in this fic and how I brought the fandoms together. I think I managed to make it interesting and fun, and I just hope people enjoyed it.

2. Sealed by Fire, Highlander, Methos/Duncan, DW; LJ; AO3
This fic was purely inspired by the poem The Dream by Pablo Neruda. I really strove to capture the feeling the poem invoked in me when I read it and have Methos and Duncan embody that feeling. I thought I succeeded and I'm pretty proud of the style as well.

3. Then Everything Fell..., Primeval, Nick/Lester, DW; LJ; AO3
This was a post S2 fic that dealt with Nick's loss of Stephen. It's truly pre-slash, but the chemistry between these two in the last ep of S2 was just so lovely and I wanted to work that in to Nick's grief. I love this fic because it's in character and I think the interactions are just spot on. It's what I hope happened and it's my own personal canon.

4. Crimson, Chuck, Chuck/Bryce, DW; LJ; AO3
And since I've listed two angsty pieces I thought I'd choose a fluff piece. This is probably my favorite fluff - sex and Christmas and Chuck's adorable awkwardness :D I loved writing this - it made me smile the entire time. It still does when I read it.

~*~

So, okay. This was an odd exercise, but it's kinda awesome. It reminds me why I enjoyed writing fics so much :D On to the next day's challenge!

Five Questions Meme

[profile] katekat1010 asked me these awesome questions:

What kind of underwear do you imagine Methos wears and why? )

What's the oddest term of endearment you've ever used or that someone's used for you? )

What's your favorite 'i'm sick and i need comfort words' book? )

What did you think about before you fell asleep last night? )

Which mythological creature/god/goddess/story did you love most when you were a kid and why? )

~*~

If you want to play, leave "Eep!" as part of your comment to this entry and I'll think up 5 questions for you too! The only rule is you have to answer them at some point and extend the offer to others...

ART: Chosen (Stargate SG-1, Samantha Carter/Martouf/Lantash)

[livejournal.com profile] kink_bigbang's 2011 Round is now posting!

I have created art for one of the fics... [livejournal.com profile] roeskva did an awesome job with her fic - I only hope that my art can live up to it :)

Fic: Link to story by [personal profile] roeskva (NC-17)
Art: Over at Kink Big Bang by [personal profile] silentflux (work safe)

Fandom: Stargate SG-1
Pairing: Samantha Carter/Martouf/Lantash
Summary: When they fled through the Stargate, leaving their enemies behind, Samantha Carter and Martouf/Lantash thought they would be going back to safety on Earth. Instead, a malfunctioning Stargate sent them to an alien planet, just in time for the yearly Spring festival. Unable to gate home, they are picked as the year's 'chosen couple' and forced to participate in fertility rites. As if that was not enough, the people on the planet discovers Martouf is not an ordinary human, but host to Lantash - a being from a species which they consider gods.
